Children's Summer Reading

This summer, from May 30th through August 8th kids of all ages can join us at the library to challenge themselves to keep reading and have a lot of fun while earning prizes! After registering for the program, you can complete the activities below to earn punches on your card. After 10 punches, cards will be turned in for a small prize and entered into a drawing for a big prize.

Punches can be earned as follows:

  1. Check Out: 1 punch for first item checked out
    and an additional punch for every 5 items
    after. This includes items from Libby and
    Hoopla.

  2. Complete the reading record on the
    back of this sheet (10 punches).

  3. Do the weekly take home craft (show
    us a picture or bring it in!).

  4. Chat with a librarian about a book
    you read.

  5. Do the weekly sound trivia Attend a library program.

  6. Complete the weekly Critter Quest
    scavenger hunt.

  7. Check out a bonus book (random tickets
    inside shelved books).

YA Summer Reading

Completed Punch Cards (5 punches) get 1 Prize Token for the Prize Pod Machine (small or medium prize) and the punch card can be placed into a drawing for one of the three grand prizes!!

Complete a Bookish Beautician Reading Log for an automatic 5 punches and a Prize Token!

Punches can be earned as follows:

  1. Check out a book- 1 punch for the first, and 1 for every 5 after. Example: 1 book=1 punch, 6 books=2 Punches

  2. Attend a YA program - 1 punch

  3. Complete a Passive Program- 1 punch per passive.

YA summer passives programs include:​​

  • Monthly passive (Right round table)

  • Any passives from the extra activities table (Left Round Table)

  • Show a “Pet Picture” to a staff member!

  • Add to the “One Sentence Story” book (Take a pic or show a
    staff member)

  • Make a craft at the craft table (COLORING PAGES DO NOT COUNT)

Adult Summer Reading

Punches can be earned as follows:

  1. Check out items- You get one punch for checking out items. After every five items, you get another punch. This includes eBooks, so show us what items you have checked out on Libby and Hoopla!

  2. Attend a library program- You will get a punch for every adult program that you attend. This may be given in the form of a ticket. Bring the ticket to the adult circulation desk to get a punch.

  3. Passives- You will get a punch for each passive that you complete. This includes word searches, pet pictures, guess the tale/ tail, bonus bookmarks, and activity bingo.

 

How to Earn Punches through Circulation:

  • One Punch- 1-5 items

  • Two Punches- 6-10 items

  • Three Punches- 11-15 items

  • Four Punches- 16-20 items

  • Five Punches- 21-25 items

  • Six Punches- 26-30 items

  • Seven Punches- 31-35 items

  • Eight Punches- 36-40 items

  • Nine Punches- 41-45 items

  • Ten Punches- 46-50 items

Outreach Summer Reading

Patrons can get special outreach van prizes available for summer reading participation. Our outreach van travels all over Salem and makes stops at many community events.
