QuakerSpace

The QuakerSpace is a craft- and technology-oriented room where you can unleash your creativity through DIY projects. Please note that some equipment an orientation before use.

 

Patrons must learn how to use design software and execute crafts. Salem Public Library staff will not be responsible for patrons' projects. 

 

Appointments for the Glowforge, Cricut, Heat Press, and Mug Press are not available at this time

Glowforge

The Glowforge is a powerful laser cutter that can create intricate designs by cutting or engraving various flat materials (max 20" x 18"). With the ability to cut, score, and engrave, it supports .jpg, and .png files for engraving .svg, and .pdf files for cutting and engraving. Additionally, you can scan and reproduce your own pen and ink drawings.

The Cricut is a machine designed for cutting various materials like paper, vinyl, and felt, enabling you to create stunning crafts. Additionally, some Cricut models offer features such as drawing, embossing, and folding lines.

The HTVRONT heat press uses heat to adhere heat transfer vinyl (HTV) to fabrics and other surfaces. It's similar to a high-temperature iron, but with the added convenience of automatically applying the correct pressure and temperature for a set amount of time.

The Cricut Mug Press can press vinyl or Infusible Ink to transfer custom designs onto polyurethane-coated mugs, resulting in professional-looking mugs that. Please note that Infusible Ink process only works with Cricut or sublimation mugs, and takes approximately 5-6 minutes to press and 10-15 minutes to cool.

Preservation Equipment

The Epson Flatbed Photo Scanner and the VHS to DVD converter are located in the QuakerSpace, but do not require patrons to have taken the Orientation.

Supported Film Size:

  • 35 mm mounted slides (4 frames)

  • 35 mm film strips (12 frames)

  • Medium format strips 6x22 cm (2 frames)

Epson Flatbed Scanner

With our Epson flatbed photo scanner, you can digitize your family photos and negatives. Save to a flashdrive, email, or burn to a disk. Archive and backup your memories!

Scanner
VHS to DVD Converter

Our VHS to DVD recorder allows you to preserve your home movies in a digital format.

Patrons can sign up for an appointment to use this machine on their own by following the link below. 

VHS DVD
  • Patrons are given one free DVD (that holds 120 minutes of recordings) per day, if they use the machine. 

  • Plays standard VHS tapes and VHS-C and Super VHS-C camcorder videocassettes, using our adaptor.

3D Printer

A 3D printer is a machine that builds objects layer by layer using plastic or other materials. It turns digital designs into real items, like toys, tools, or models. You can create custom things, from fun trinkets to useful parts, right before your eyes. It’s a fun way to bring your ideas to life!
